As followers of Jesus, we are called to reach our communities with the Gospel (Great Commission – Mt. 28:18-20). Sadly, the statistics say that only 2-5% of Christians share the Gospel. This means that 95-98% are not reaching their communities with the Gospel.
Is this lack of obedience to the Great Commission directly linked to the Laodicean climate of the church and the chaos in our culture (communities)? I believe it is.
Jesus said that He came that we might have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10b). I believe that the Great Commandment (Mt. 22:36-40) and the Great Commission (Mt. 28:18-20) are divinely linked to the “abundant life” which I define as a life filled with the “fruit of the Spirit” (Gal. 5:22-23). A life filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
The rationale for this is that God does not bless disobedience, and if we are not about the King’s business (Two Great Mandates – Great Commandment & Great Commission) why should we expect to experience the King’s blessings.
The foundation for reaching our communities is to reach them with the love of God through the Gospel of God.
